Eric Nam mentioned about the popularity of K-pop overseas.
Eric Nam and Zenith News met at a café located in Sinsadong, Gangnamgu to interview his new English album, ‘Before We Begin’.
Eric Nam who has been active with his promotion in and out of Korea stated “Few years ago, there were more general public who didn’t knew what K-pop was even, by the success of BLACKPINK and BTS lately, those eyes have changed drastically.” And also, “back then, it was more like ‘oh, what a unique genre’, but now it has turned in to ‘Don’t you know K-pop? Do you know BTS?’”.
Eric Nam also mentioned “I was on tour last week in LA. I did an interview about how society sees men. I heard it is keep changing due to K-pop as well. In Korea, men wear makeup and groom their selves, but its often misinterpreted in other places of the world. What I heard is that by K-pop gaining power, it is changing into men in the US trying to groom and wear makeup
Furthermore, “For now BTS is known for being the most famous, I hope I can be a messenger through this album and interviews to show there are diverse genre and many more singers in that group. That is what I aspire to be.”
Meanwhile, Eric Nam has released his first English album on 14th, 6PM (KST) through various online music providers worldwide.
