Choi Siwon from the group Super Junior has been commissioned as ambassador for UNICEF’s East Asia Pacific territory, as a first Korean ever to be commissioned.
Choi Siwon from the K-pop group Super Junior has been appointed as ‘UNICEF Regional Ambassador for East Asia Pacific Regional’ at ‘Lao Generation 2030 Forum in Vientiane’ held in Vientiane, Laos, at 11th (local time). Event held in commemoration of 30th anniversary of adopting UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
It is the first time ever for a Korean artist to be appointed as Regional Ambassador for East Asia Pacific Regions. This not only shows the influence and popularity he has in those regions, but also the result of his integrity in his work, fighting for children’s’ rights since 2010.
During the event he stated, “I am more than happy to be appointed as ‘Ambassador for East Asia Pacific Region’. I felt like it was my duty to protect them while I was having a special moments with the children and their families, when visiting numerous countries” in his speech.
Choi Siwon had attended numerous UNICEF campaign in the form of charity works since 2010. By his humble act, he was appointed as UNICEF Korea committee’s special representative, and even through his tight schedule, he managed to visit not only Korea, but also Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and many more countries’ UNICEF offices in East Asia Pacific region to support, and working for children’s’ rights.
In particular, Choi Siwon attended ‘the 5th Asean children forum’ as the keynote addressor for its opening, expressing his interest in children’s rights, and emceeing a debate between 10 East Asian countries’ representatives. He also raised awareness for children’s rights by raising 500 thousand dollars for Thailand’s charity fundraiser variety show, ‘The Blue Carpet Show’.
Furthermore, he will keep on the work as the ‘UNICEF Regional Ambassador for East Asia Pacific Regional’ focusing on protecting the children in online space and their rights in health, education, and equality.
