[Zenith News=Byeon Jinhee] The love for idols is precious and beautiful. However, it is not possible to justify a broken love with 'fanship.' This is because those who receive that love are suffering.
We call them 'sasaeng (stalking) fans' who violate celebrities' privacy by visiting their lodgings, workrooms, shops and schools. Cases of sasaeng fan trespassing have been reported several times since the first-generation idol group in the past, but now that the K-pop market has become bigger and more active, the issue is becoming more serious.
An incident of invasion of privacy on Chanyeol of EXO was reported on the 21st.
Recently, Chanyeol reported to the police after learning that a Chinese sasaeng fan had attempted to break into a studio where he works with his crew. "We reported the incident because of continuous intrusions of sasaeng fans in the studio that Chanyeol and MQ use together," the agency said. "We ask you to refrain from doing so as the pain and damage of artists are serious due to privacy violations that are going too far."
BTS, who has been carrying out global activities throughout the world, is also suffering as well due to their sasaeng fans. On the 16th, member Jungkook said while he was hosting a live broadcast on Naver V LIVE after the fan meeting, "I'm getting a call from an unknown number. I'll hang up because I don't know who it is." Jungkook added, "I'm on V LIVE and I got a phone call. If they called me just to confirm (whether it's my number or not), I have to block it right away. In fact, sasaeng fans call a lot."

The cast members of Mnet's popular 'Produce X 101' are also suffering from sasaeng fans too. The cast, who are still trainees, have no special schedule other than 'Produce X 101', and are mostly students, so their privacy is more exposed. In response, each agency urged everyone to protect the privacy of the trainees.
Brand New Music, which made Kim Si-hoon, Yoon Jung-hwan, Lee Eun-sang and Hong Sung-joon star on the show, said on its official SNS, "Our trainees are suffering from inconvenience due to the recent unofficial personal visits, including in front of the Brand New Music office building and lodging. Please refrain from coming personally for the safety and privacy of the trainees."
Starship Entertainment also mentioned trainees Koo Jung-mo, Moon Hyun-bin, Ham Won-jin, Kang Min-hee and Song Hyung-joon, saying "Recent visits to places that are not included in the official schedules, including agency, lodgings, hair shops and schools, have caused problems such as safety and privacy violations of trainees. We ask you to refrain from visiting the places that could infringe on privacy, as well as the agency building and lodging, and from following private schedules.”
The awareness of the problem for sasaeng fans should be raised. There's a privacy that stars don't want many people to know even if they are a celebrity. Such behavior, like housebreaking is an obvious crime, and going to school can cause secondary damage to other students. As much as we like and care about them, isn't it a healthy fandom culture to respect and protect the privacy of idol groups.
